- Abstract
The object of research is the Smol’ninskoye fortress site in Primorye region, south Far East of Russia. This site dated to the 9th–11th cc. has an interesting pottery assemblage which includes both wheel-made and hand-made vessels. Certain peculiarities of the wheel-made pottery (evident use of paddling technology, standards of morphology and decoration) distinguish this assemblage from already known pottery-making traditions of Bo-hai state (698–926 AD) and Jurchen state (1115–1234 AD). The authors assume that the Smol’ninskoye hillfort is a new cultural unit of the Medieval epoch in Primorye region.
