Abstract
The article is devoted to the constructions "accusative with participle" in the Lithuanian language, which have not yet become an object of strict synchronous description in modern syntactic terms. These constructions are considered in the light of generative theory, within which two competing interpretations have been proposed for similar structures in other languages: (i) in terms of "raising" the subject of the dependent clause to the position of the direct object of the main clause, and (ii) in terms of the "exclusive case marking" of this the subject that is in the nested clause by a matrix predicate. Based on empirical criteria, it is shown that none of the two main methods of analysis accepted in generative grammar are suitable for Lithuanian constructions. Instead, an alternative interpretation is proposed based on the idea of attributing the case within the nested clause itself, expressed in a number of recent works.
