- Abstract
S. Dovlatov sneers at the dissidents of the later period, claiming that they understand the official discourse too literally and take it seriously. However, the analysis of his poetics discloses certain similarities between his worldview and that of the early dissidents. Same as the early dissidents, Dovlatov sees the discrepancies between the form and substance of everyday rituals. A recurrent theme in his texts is the re-introduction of meaning into an utterance.
