Abstract

Cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is one of the important elements of the Biden administration’s Indo-Pacific strategy.

The United States plans to expand its participation and capital investment in infrastructure building in the region, in renewable energy sources and in new technologies development, especially digital commerce. However, since the United States is not a member of neither the CPTTP nor the RCEP, US companies may be at a disadvantage compared to those from other countries. At the same time, ASEAN economies are actively cooperating with the PRC, including cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road and the Digital Silk Road project. One of the most important tasks of US economic diplomacy in the Asia Pacific is to create with allied countries a system of technological standards, as an alternative to the one lobbied by China.

The changing situation in the region provides many new opportunities for Russian enterprises. For example, Russian companies have the potential to cooperate with the ASEAN economies in the production and trade of science-intensive products.
