Abstract

For almost 30 years, Democrats and Republicans have been unable to agree on the urgently needed immigration reform. The only shift in this matter was B. Obama's executive order protecting from deportation the so-called "dreamers" (young illegal immigrants brought into the U.S. by their parents before the age of 18). "Dreamers" struggled to assert themselves as a political force, they managed to overcome the influence of major lobbying organizations and gain White House’s attention. In 2020 Supreme Court will rule on the executive order that D. Trump decided to abolish. This could not only affect almost a million young people, but also the immigrant community as a whole. "Dreamers" have been able to find surprising allies among conservative lawyers and Republican Party donors, which undoubtedly increases their chance of success and gives hope for possible overcoming the conservatives’ and liberals’ polarization.
