Abstract

Using diverse methodological approaches (J. Nye’s liberal realism concept of “soft power”, the neomarxist A. Gramshi’s concept of “hegemony”, the poststructuralist theory of ideology by L. Althusser, the suggestion and countersuggestion conception by B. Porshnev) the author analyses the activities of the pro-Western NGOs and media, the state of public consciousness in Armenia before and after the 44-days Karabach war of 2020. Changes in the perceptions of the citizens and the tactics of political spin-doctors in the aftermath of the war in conditions of countersuggestion and critical attitudes of the public as well as awareness of the dire consequences for the country of the performance of the Pashinyans’ government are examined. The author notes that the pro-Western NGOs and media turn from “soft power” promoting a positive image of the object (the aggregate West and incumbent authorities) to give priority to “soft power in reverse” – creating a negative image of the adversary, namely “demonizing” and discrediting Russia. Measures to consolidate the information space of Armenia and Russia to counter the antiRussian line are proposed.
